Since calling in 2000 Jonathan Brown has pursued a broad practice focusing on commercial dispute resolution, professional negligence and professional discipline. He also accepts instructions in licensing matters. His commercial dispute resolution practice encompasses commercial contract disputes, partnership disputes, company and shareholder disputes, disputes arising from breach of fiduciary duty, personal and corporate insolvency and contentious property and landlord and tenant matters. His professional negligence work is principally in cases involving solicitors, surveyors and insurance brokers. His disciplinary and regulatory work is predominantly concerned with solicitors’ disciplinary proceedings, in which he represents both individual practitioners and regulators, but he also has experience of representing accountants, architects, pharmacists, members of local authorities and senior police officers.
He has appeared at every level of the Scottish Court system, including many times in the Inner House, often without a leader, in the House of Lords (without a leader) and the Supreme Court, and before numerous statutory and regulatory tribunals.
He is recommended by Chambers and Partners for professional discipline (band 1) and for commercial dispute resolution (band 2) and by the Legal 500 for commercial litigation and professional negligence.
