Ewen called to the Bar in 2013 after training and practising as a litigation solicitor.
Since becoming an advocate, Ewen has been principally instructed in commercial, professional negligence, media and procurement related matters. He has provided advice in matters involving commercial (including construction) contracts, solicitors, architects and clinical negligence, defamation, suspension and interdict, international private law, trademark infringement, nuisance and public procurement. He has been instructed by a number of major media clients and has carried forward his experience as a solicitor in this area to his practise at the Bar. He is ranked Band 1 for Media Law by Chambers UK and is described as "Assiduous, hard-working and ambitious" and is said to be "a very, very polished performer." .
Ewen has appeared in actions in both the Court of Session (Commercial Court, Outer House and Inner House) and the Sheriff Court. These appearances have included proofs, debates, appeals, reclaiming motions and successfully obtaining interim orders. He has also appeared in long running Fatal Accident Inquiries.
As a solicitor Ewen had particular experience and interest in commercial and media litigation. He was also involved in cases dealing with the Competition Commission, sports regulation, licensing, crime and FAI’s. As a result of this diverse experience, Ewen has worked with a broad range of clients including high profile individuals and organisations.
Ewen was previously a tutor in commercial law at the University of Glasgow.
